How to share a ChatGPT conversation (create a public link)

You want to send someone the whole ChatGPT thread — not a screenshot, not one answer. ChatGPT can turn a conversation into a public link in about four clicks. Here's exactly where the button is.

Create the share link

The share control lives in the menu at the top of the chat, next to the conversation title. Follow these in order:

  1. Open the conversation you want to share.
  2. Click the ··· (three-dots) menu at the top-right of the chat title.
  3. Choose Share.
  4. Click Create link (or Create public link).
  5. Click Copy link — that's your shareable URL.

The link you copy looks like chatgpt.com/share/…. Anyone who opens it sees the full back-and-forth of that conversation, as a read-only page.

The share link vs. a single-message link

A chatgpt.com/share/… link carries the whole conversation. A chatgpt.com/s/… link is different — it points to a single message, not the full thread. If you need someone (or a tool) to see everything, use the share link, not the single-message one.

What the link exposes

A share link is public to anyone who has the URL. It isn't listed anywhere or indexed by default, but there's no password — if the link gets forwarded, whoever holds it can read the conversation. So before you create one, glance through the thread for anything you wouldn't want a stranger to see: names, account details, private plans, pasted documents.

Note that a share link is a snapshot. Messages you send after creating the link don't appear on the shared page unless you create a new link.

Un-share when you're done

Once the link has served its purpose, revoke it so it stops working:

  1. Open the same conversation.
  2. Open the ··· menu and go to Share again (or your shared-links settings).
  3. Delete or disable the link.

After that, the old URL no longer opens the chat.

A common reason people share: to keep going elsewhere

Plenty of people create a share link not to show a person, but to carry a long conversation into a fresh chat — because the current thread has gotten slow, forgetful, or too long to continue. A share link is the cleanest way to hand the whole conversation to a tool that can summarize it into a reboot prompt. That's exactly what the box below does.

The faster way

Once you've copied that chatgpt.com/share/… link, paste it into Uncook. It reads the whole conversation and writes a clean reboot prompt — your goal, locked decisions, repeated constraints and current state, already assembled. Skim it, paste it into a fresh chat, and keep going.

Honest about your data: pasted text is analyzed in your browser; a share link is fetched once through our server to read the conversation, then discarded — never stored, never used for training. A share link makes the chat viewable by anyone with the URL; un-share it once you're done.
